Airlines are collaborating with established restaurants to provide more elevated in-flight dining experiences to their customers.

What’s the deal with airplane food? The in-flight meal has become a new battleground between airline companies. China Airlines has teamed up with Shuang Yue Food, which received its first Michelin Bib Gourmand rating in 2018, to serve new dishes on certain Southeast Asian routes in business class starting April 1.

Representatives from China Airlines and Shuang Yue Food said the collaboration has been a year in the making, explaining that they undertook this project in order to keep up with their competitors. EVA Air and STARLUX Airlines have also cooperated with top chefs and Michelin-starred restaurants to offer sukiyaki, yakiniku, bak kut teh, and Cantonese cuisine in different cabin classes.

Some airlines are focusing on ways to highlight local and international cuisines on their flights. Korean Air, for example, offers bibimbamp, while Air France is promoting French cuisine. According to surveys, Korean Air provides the tastiest in-flight meal, with Air France and Turkish Airlines taking second and third place.
