Chiayi's pineapples are so delicious that they are winning over the taste buds of people in Japan.

In a wonderful display of agricultural diplomacy, Chiayi County’s pineapples have become a star attraction in Japan’s Yamaguchi Prefecture. County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang (翁章梁) personally led a promotional campaign that transformed local pineapples into a culinary sensation.
During a ceremonial event at Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, Chiayi County's pineapples were prominently showcased, symbolizing good fortune. The following day, Magistrate Weng visited the region's largest supermarket chain, introducing not only the popular "honey-sweet” pineapple but also launching pineapple cakes for the first time.
Supermarket shelves gleamed with fresh, golden pineapples—both whole and sliced—boasting an impressive 12-degree sweetness. Weng personally offered samples, winning over both children and adults with the fruit's exceptional quality.
Weng states that Chiayi's climate is ideal for growing pineapples, asserting that they carefully selected the finest fruits to share the most delicious flavors with their Japanese friends.
This initiative, which began in 2023, has successfully expanded Chiayi's agricultural brand into the Japanese market, with local consumers eagerly lining up to purchase these tropical delicacies.
