Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) affirmed its commitment to keeping its foundation in Taiwan with an expansion ceremony at the company’s Kaohsiung plant this Monday. Premier Cho Jung-Tai (卓榮泰), Senior Vice President of Operations YP Chin (秦永沛), Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝), and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) were in attendance at the fab, which was built to produce TSMC’s 2nm chips.

The Cabinet approved the planning and design of the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park in July 2023, investing NT$15.6 billion (US$470.3 million) to renovate park roads and strengthen external transportation thereby easing the flow of talents and products, according to Premier Cho. He likened the area to a new Silicon Valley that will accelerate the development of Taiwan’s technology industry with TSMC at the forefront.

Cho thanked TSMC for its unfaltering commitment to making Taiwan its manufacturing base as the company expands globally. He said that the strength of the country and of TSMC is connected, and as one strengthens so will the other. Cho said the two will join forces and go global together.
