President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) presented his economic policy to a group of overseas Taiwanese business owners during their visit to the Presidential Office on Tuesday, urging them to return and invest in Taiwan.

Lai first thanked the business owners for their commercial efforts abroad, which reflect Taiwan's economic strength. He cited the 2025 Index of Economic Freedom published by the Heritage Foundation, which ranked Taiwan as the fourth freest economy in the world for three consecutive years. He added that Taiwan's GDP growth reached 4.59% last year, surpassing that of Japan, the U.S., and the EU.

Lai says Taiwan must strengthen its national power in the face of volatile international situations, address the challenges posed by the Red Supply Chain, and mitigate the impact of its low-price dumping.

In addition to the Three Major Programs for Investing in Taiwan, which were launched in 2018 during his tenure as Premier and extended until 2027, Lai mentioned that the government introduced the Trillion NT Dollar Investment National Development Plan this year. This plan aims to increase private participation in national infrastructure and industrial development. He says the plan will enhance transportation, medical, and cultural infrastructure, supporting more balanced regional development.

Lai says the government seeks to create a more stable and attractive environment through these policies and encourages overseas Taiwanese businessmen to return and invest in Taiwan. He expressed hope that Taiwanese entrepreneurship would continue to expand globally, leading to mutual economic success both locally and internationally.
