A Taiwan-themed streetcar made its debut in Toronto this week as part of a tourism campaign launched by the Taiwan Tourism Administration. Running through May 18, the promotion showcases Taiwan’s scenic diversity and aims to spark Canadian interest in visiting the country.

Toronto’s historic and widely recognized streetcar system serves as the moving canvas for this immersive campaign. On Wednesday, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York hosted a launch event in Toronto, inviting nearly 100 travel industry professionals and media to experience the tram and preview Taiwan’s latest tourism offerings.

New York Office Director Jin Juang (莊靜真), Toronto Director General Liang Yi-peng (梁毅鵬), and EVA Air representatives joined guests aboard the five-car streetcar, which features full wrap-around visuals promoting Taiwan’s travel brand.

Speaking to Central News Agency, Liang said that since his arrival earlier this year, he has visited various sectors across Toronto, where many fondly recalled past trips to Taiwan, calling them unforgettable.

Chuang noted that Taiwan’s unique attractions continue to draw visitors. In 2023, North American arrivals rose by over 20% from the previous year, with U.S. visitor numbers even exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

To celebrate, the administration teamed up with EVA Air and seven Taiwan-themed restaurants in Toronto, inviting locals to ride the tram and savor authentic Taiwanese flavors around the city.
