The National Fire Agency (NFA) under the Interior Ministry co-hosted a disaster prevention and first aid training for foreign missions in Taiwan on Tuesday. The event, proposed and co-hosted by the Polish Office in Taipei, aims to strengthen disaster awareness and response capabilities among foreign representative offices and international organizations based in Taiwan.
Deputy Interior Minister Dong Jian-hong (董建宏) welcomed 35 representatives from 20 countries and international organizations, including countries such as the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, and EU member states. He noted that Taiwan is frequently affected by earthquakes and typhoons, making disaster preparedness and response capabilities critically important. He says the training not only promotes the joint learning of disaster response but also helps deepen international cooperation.
The training featured lectures on Taiwan’s common natural disaster risks, disaster prevention systems, and household preparedness, delivered by experts from the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, Ming Chuan University, and National Taiwan Normal University.
Dr. Chen Chao-wen (陳昭文) of Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital also led practical sessions in CPR, AED operation, bleeding control, and casualty transport to ensure participants could respond effectively during emergencies.
