U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day pause for his reciprocal tariff plan, imposing a 10% duty during the interim period. In response, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday that a 10% tariff rate falls within Taiwan’s earlier projections. He emphasized the government would use this window to engage in direct, effective dialogue with Washington.

Cho confirmed that the Executive Yuan’s previously announced 20 support measures will remain in place. Government ministries are expected to release application procedures by April 14. Departmental budgets will be reallocated as needed, and national funds will be tapped to respond quickly.

With the U.S. planning to raise tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%, Cho noted many Taiwanese businesses still operate in China. He said the government will assess their needs and provide assistance where needed. The administration also plans to extend the May tax filing deadline, echoing measures taken during the pandemic.

The Cabinet on Thursday approved the NT$88 billion (US$2.67 billion) supply chain support program, which will be submitted to the Legislature for expedited review. Cho urged political unity, thanking local governments for their support and encouraging all parties to prioritize Taiwan’s economic stability and industrial growth.
