Tuvalu Deputy Prime Minister Panapasi Nelesone and a delegation are visiting Taiwan from Monday to Friday. Nelesone will be meeting with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) for the signing of two agreements enhancing labor and seafaring cooperation between Tuvalu and Taiwan.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the delegation includes Tuvalu’s ministers of foreign affairs, trade and labor, public works, and infrastructure development and water resources. Nelesone, who is visiting Taiwan for the first time since taking office, will also be meeting with officials from the Economic Ministry, Finance Ministry, the International Cooperation and Development Fund, and other agencies to have in-depth exchanges and discussions on relevant issues.
Taiwan and Tuvalu have entered their 46th year of diplomatic relations and friendship. The Foreign Ministry said that the Tuvalu government has a long history of firmly supporting Taiwan's international participation, cooperating closely in the fields of climate change, information and communications, agriculture and fisheries, clean energy, and health care. It expressed its hopes that the two countries will continue to work together to promote the well-being of their peoples and the stability and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region.
