On Wednesday, the Defense Ministry reported on Chinese military activities and patrols in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait.

It said from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, 17 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and 8 official warships were detected in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait. The aircraft include a Chinese helicopter in Taiwan’s northern air defense identification zone (ADIZ) beginning in the afternoon, and 14 fighter jets in the late evening, 8 of which crossed the median line. Two more fighter jets were also detected in Taiwan’s southwestern airspace, also in the late evening. As of yesterday, a total of 25 PLA aircraft and ships continued to operate in and around the Taiwan Strait.

The Defense Ministry assures that it is closely monitoring the situation and ready to respond through air and naval patrols, and shore-based missile systems.
