The 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78) is set to take place from May 19 to 27 in Geneva, Switzerland. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry says it is actively pursuing plans to secure participation and is maintaining close coordination with the U.S. administration.
The ministry reaffirms that Taiwan’s longstanding goal is to be invited to the WHA as an observer and to participate fully and without hindrance in all meetings, mechanisms, and activities of the World Health Organization (WHO).
At the WHO Executive Board meeting in February, the United States publicly voiced strong support for Taiwan’s inclusion and pushed back against China’s misinterpretation of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Organization Affairs also reiterated this support through a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The ministry adds that since the new U.S. administration took office, supportive language regarding Taiwan’s global engagement has been included in statements from the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Japan-U.S.-South Korea trilateral. It describes the overall outlook as positive and says it will provide updates in due course.
