DPP spokesperson Justin Wu (吳崢) on Thursday evening criticized the KMT for not only trampling on Taiwan’s rule of law but also undermining social stability.

KMT Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) earlier that evening called on the public to gather outside the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to protest the questioning of KMT Taipei Chapter head Huang Lu Chin-ju (黃呂錦茹) in connection with the so-called “ghost signature” case. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng (張善政), and others also appeared to show their support.

The controversy centers on petitions to recall lawmakers from the ruling DPP in support of the opposition KMT, which were found to include as many as 19,844 fraudulent or erroneous signatures nationwide, including 1,923 belonging to deceased individuals.

Wu noted that in December 2024, the KMT forcibly pushed through an amendment to the Public Officials Election and Recall Act in the Legislature. He urged the KMT not to test the limits of the law. Wu also harshly condemned the KMT for allegedly forging signatures in an attempt to manipulate the process, saying the party has refused to apologize to the public and has instead chosen to smear the judiciary.

He called on the public to stand united in condemning the KMT, accusing the party of treating the laws of Taiwan with contempt.
