The U.S. tariff policy has greatly affected industrial development in Taiwan, for which the Cabinet has proposed an NT$88 billion (US$2.7 billion) relief plan. On Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced that the plan will be published to the Legislature next week for deliberation, while also noting that the scale may end up exceeding the originally proposed NT$88 billion.
The Premier said that after many inter-industry discussions, he now aims to relax the plan’s eligibility criteria, while expanding its application. Speaking to whether the amount will increase, he mentioned that, as the Cabinet has not yet released the plan in full, it will be taken into careful consideration.
Cho said that, regardless of what changes will be made, the basic structure of the support plan will remain the same. Any content changes will be the result of fine-tuning before its official submission next week.
