Taiwan’s MacKay Memorial Hospital has sent medical teams to Ukraine for the fifth time since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. The most recent trip took place April 13 to 27 to provide care to local soldiers and residents with treatment stations set up at churches in Zviahel, Korosten, Medzhybizh, Ternopil. Of the various services offered, treatments based on traditional Chinese medicine have been the most popular.

This trip’s 11-person team, led by MacKay Memorial Hospital International Medical Service Center Director Dr. Tsai Wei-te (蔡維德), included medical professionals from the hospital’s Taipei, Hsinchu, and Taitung branches. Providing cardiology, dentistry, oral surgery, emergency medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine care, the team was divided into three groups: clinical medical care, medical education, and official visits.

The medical education team held three Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) courses in local hospitals and medical schools with a total of 54 doctors and students in attendance. Director Tsai also held a regional physician workshop, attended by more than 100 physicians.

The MacKay team met with the Vinnytsia City Clinical Emergency Hospital’s director and Vinnytsia National Medical University’s president to discuss future cooperation.
