Results from a recent poll by the Humanity for Freedom Foundation showed that the majority of American respondents strongly support Taiwan and strengthening U.S.-Taiwan relations. The poll, conducted by Remington Research Group, indicated a clear bipartisan consensus among Americans on issues related to Taiwan’s sovereignty and its importance to the United States.
68% of respondents held a positive view of Taiwan, 82% believe Taiwan is an independent country, and 58% support the U.S. formally recognizing Taiwan as such and establishing comprehensive diplomatic relations. Remington Research Group surveyed a total of 800 potential voters nationwide and reported a confidence level of 95% for these results.
Opinions on military defense were more evenly divided. Thirty-nine percent of respondents indicated that the U.S. should continue to maintain strategic ambiguity regarding whether to assist Taiwan in resisting Chinese military action, 32% believe the U.S. should clearly express its commitment to assist Taiwan militarily, 27% were unsure, and the remaining 3% believed the U.S. should stop selling weapons to Taiwan.
