President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) visited New Taipei Industrial Park on Friday to meet with business leaders, outlining the Executive Yuan’s proposed support measures and reassuring them that Taiwan’s power supply will remain stable through 2032.

In the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs announcement, Lai has been actively engaging with industry leaders. He was joined by Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Men-an (潘孟安), Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝), and New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) for the roundtable.

Mayor Hou opened by highlighting key concerns from local businesses. He pointed to uncertainty stemming from shifting global dynamics and Trump’s unpredictable trade stance, saying companies need timely information. He also warned of rising electricity demand and the phase-out of nuclear power, which could lead to energy shortages.

In response, Lai said the government’s energy planning includes future demands from AI and data centers and confirmed that power supply will remain stable through 2032. He acknowledged Taiwan’s green energy shortfall and pledged continued investment in wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and hydrogen power.

Lai concluded by noting Taiwan’s resilience: Q1 GDP growth reached 5.37%, with 65% of exports headed to markets beyond the U.S. and China. He encouraged businesses to remain confident in the nation’s economic future.
