Last week, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Brazil and Sergipe Technological Park (SergipeTec) jointly held briefings on Taiwanese industry and business opportunities in order to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in high-tech industries.

The briefings took place May 8 and 9 in Brazil’s Sergipe state and gathered local politicians and representatives from more than 100 companies in sectors such as textiles, medical products, logistics, energy, and carbon trading. Aracaju City’s Economic Development and Innovation Secretary Dilermando Junior says working with countries like Taiwan promotes the city’s economic development and enhances enterprises’ competitiveness.

SergipeTec President João Anizio Torres says that the technological park aims to broaden its horizons by establishing ties with Taiwan, which holds a benchmark position in technological innovation. SergipeTec supports entrepreneurship in information and communication technology, biotechnology, and renewable energy.

The Sergipe State Government and Taiwan External Trade Development Council first signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to build and strengthen trade and industrial exchanges with Taiwan in 2023. In 2024, SergipeTec and the Institute for Information Industry also signed an MOU committing to deepening cooperation. According to TECO Brazil, the briefings further illustrate Taiwan’s commitment to building robust bilateral relations with Brazil.
