President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 Computex on Tuesday and highlighted Taiwan’s critical role in the global artificial intelligence (AI) industry.

Lai says that Taiwan possesses a complete AI, semiconductor, and ICT industry chain, making it an indispensable force in advancing the “AI Next” era - the theme of this year’s exhibition. He noted that last year, Taiwan’s ICT product exports exceeded US$100 billion—a 59% increase from 2023. Additionally, over 90% of the world’s most advanced wafer manufacturing is done in Taiwan.

Lai says that these achievements are the collective results of companies across global industry chains and reaffirmed Taiwan’s ambition to become a global pivot point for AI development. He pledges to work closely with industry leaders and the global supply chain, offering government support through legal reforms, tax incentives, and financial assistance to foster a more robust environment for ICT growth.

Lai adds that Taiwan will pursue investment protection agreements and double taxation avoidance treaties with allied nations to encourage international investment. He says the government is also committed to promoting the global semiconductor supply chain partnership initiative for democracies to improve upstream and downstream collaboration and counter low-price dumping from rival supply chains.

Looking forward, Lai hopes for strengthened software capabilities, including AI solutions for daily life and applications in defense, robotics, unmanned vehicles, and satellite technology to further global prosperity.
