90-year-old Laurence Quinlivin, grandpa of Hannah Quinlivin – wife to Jay Chou – wins one gold and two silver medals in Taiwan’s world masters games.
Laurence Quinlivan, grandfather of actress and model Hannah Quinlivan, stole the spotlight at Taiwan’s World Masters Games on Sunday, not only for his athletic performance – winning one gold and two silver medals – but also for his charming sense of humor.
After one of his events, he was asked whether he liked Taipei. With a cheeky smile, he replied that Taipei is okay, but “Kaohsiung is No. 1” – a comment that sparked laughter at the venue and quickly made its way across social media.
His praise didn’t go unnoticed. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) responded warmly, inviting him to visit the city and see how much it has changed. In a follow-up interview, the elder athlete shared his fondness for Kaohsiung, describing it as a friendly, welcoming city that has transformed over the past 30 years, now filled with parks, bike paths, and green spaces.
Hannah Quinlivan, also known as Hannah Chou, is originally from Kaohsiung, where her father once ran a tutoring center. So her grandfather is no stranger to the city. Proud of his accomplishment, superstar Jay Chou, Quinlivan’s husband, posted on Instagram, calling him amazing and sharing a clip of his now-famous remarks.
With his medals, positive energy, and love for Kaohsiung, Quinlivan's grandfather has captured hearts across Taiwan.
