Internationally acclaimed naturalist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall is visiting Taiwan for the first time in seven years. Although she was named the recipient of the 2020 Tang Prize in Sustainable Development, pandemic restrictions prevented her from accepting the award in person. Now, she is in Taiwan to deliver a public lecture and announce a new partnership with the Delta Electronics Foundation.
Dr. Goodall has teamed up with the Delta Electronics Foundation and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology to champion coral restoration education. As part of the initiative, the science picture book “Saving Our Coral Reefs” will be incorporated into the Roots & Shoots program, spreading awareness about coral conservation and marine ecology.
This Sunday, Goodall emphasized that Roots & Shoots — a global youth-led program focused on environmental, animal welfare, and humanitarian issues — remains her greatest source of hope in today’s uncertain world. The program, active in Taiwan and across the globe, encourages young people to take action by selecting three projects: one each for the environment, animals, and society. She says that when young people are empowered, nothing can stop them.
