Several mountains in northern, central, and eastern Taiwan are covered in snow as a cold snap hits the island.
The Central Weather Bureau said Monday that abundant moisture and single-digit temperatures in the mountains have brought snow to some places where it is rarely seen.
In northeastern Taiwan, Taiping Mountain saw 5 cm of snow Monday morning. In northern Taiwan, Lala Mountain in Taoyuan City saw its first snow this year early Monday morning, but the light dusting quickly melted away.
Meanwhile, 10cm of snow had accumulated on Hehuan Mountain in central Taiwan as of Monday morning. Police are cautioning tourists visiting these areas to put snow chains on their vehicles.
The weather bureau said that the chill is likely to last into Friday, when the cold air will gradually subside.
