The Council of Agriculture expects it will be able to distribute 60% of its bird flu compensation funds before the Lunar New Year holiday.
In an announcement on Monday, the council said that it has prepared NT$1.52 billion (US$48 million) in compensation to farmers forced to cull their poultry. The funds also cover the costs of emergency disease prevention.
Local governments will handle the allocation of funds. The Council of Agriculture’s bureau in charge of inspection and quarantine is asking local governments to report back every day on how much money they have distributed to farmers.
