Three people are still missing Tuesday as search-and-recovery efforts entered the seventh day following the crash of TransAsia Flight 235.
The ATR-72 turboprop plane crashed into the Keelung River in Taipei just minutes after taking off from Taipei Songshan Airport last Wednesday. So far, 40 of the 58 people on board have been confirmed dead, while 15 passengers survived the crash.
The search team has mapped out eight spots near the crash site which could contain remains. Sonar equipment has shown that there are large metal objects in the water in these areas. Experts believe that the three missing passengers could be in one of these areas, stuck in the mud and still in their seats. Divers, rescue boats, and helicopters are searching an area along the Keelung River that is about 20 kilometers long.
Officials from China have also arrived to help with the investigation. More than two dozen of the victims and two of the missing people are from China.
Government agencies across Taiwan flew their flags at half-mast on Tuesday in memory of those who died in the crash.
