Service industry to stabilize: Think tank

Taiwan's service industry is showing signs of stabilizing in March. That’s the word from a local think tank, the Commerce Development Research Institute (CDRI).

In the report, the CDRI said the index of the service industry (ISI) for February flashed a “yellow-blue light”. That indicates sluggishness, which the think tank said was due to fewer work days during the Chinese New Year holiday.

The CDRI uses a five-colored signal system in conjunction with the ISI. They look at three major indicators — securities trading, the labor market and wages, and business operations — to describe the climate of the local service sector.

Meanwhile, the CDRI is cautiously optimistic about the service industry in March. The think tank said better global fundamentals are likely to boost investor confidence. But at the same time, it said, the prolonged student protest in Taiwan might bring uncertainty to the business climate.
