Former Vice President Vincent Siew is set to lead a delegation to China on Tuesday to attend the Boao Forum for Asia.
Siew will be going in his capacity as the honorary chairman of the Cross-straits Common Market Foundation. He is expected to meet with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to discuss trade cooperation, and Taiwan’s bid to join two trade blocs. The trade blocs are the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
The CEO of the Cross-straits Common Market Foundation, Chen Der-sheng, spoke on Monday about the foundation’s role.
"We are a platform for communication," said Chen. "I think we still need to build people’s trust [in Taiwan] as well as trust between the two governments.”
The theme of this year’s Boao Forum is “Exploring Asia: Identifying New Growth Drivers.”
About 30 Taiwanese business and financial leaders are set to attend the three-day event, which will be held on the southern Chinese island of Hainan.
