Head of the opposition DPP Tsai Ing-wen has declined to comment on whether she hopes to run as the DPP’s presidential candidate in 2016.
The DPP is accepting applications from those interested in running until Monday. Tsai has been at the center of speculation since two obvious rivals, Tainan Mayor William Lai and former DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang, both announced that they will not be running. Tsai has experience campaigning for the DPP, with a failed bid for the presidency in 2012.
Speaking to media on Friday, however, Tsai said that she will announce her decision about whether to run at a later date.
