A magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck off the southeastern coast of Taiwan near the city of Taitung early Saturday morning. This is the first earthquake above the magnitude of 6 in Taiwan this year.
The earthquake was centered just 33.6 kilometers southeast of central Taitung, and it was shallow -- only 18.4 kilometers below the seabed.
The earthquake was felt across Taiwan, but there have been no reports of casualties.
