The Taiwanese air force’s first ever nighttime cloud-seeding mission has yielded results. That’s the word from the Water Resources Agency on Monday.
Two air force transport planes released 8,000 liters of water into the air at around 11:00 pm on Sunday night. The cloud-seeding mission above the water catchment areas of the reservoirs in northern Taiwan was aimed at inducing more rain in the region.
The air force said that it was the first time that the military conducted a cloud-seeding mission during the night. Because there were cold fronts approaching Taiwan early Monday morning, the military did not want to miss the timing and perfect weather conditions for making rain.
According to the military, more than 40 millimeters of rain have been observed at one of the reservoirs as of Monday afternoon, making it the most successful cloud-seeding effort so far this year.
