President Ma Ying-jeou has visited the Ma family village (Ma Jia Chuang) in northern Taiwan. The village is located in the northern county of Miaoli. People who live there are said to have ancestors in common with the president, even though he was born in Hong Kong.
The trip on Friday marked the 17th year in a row that the president has made the trip to Ma Jia Chuang during the Lunar New Year holiday. He prayed to the Ma family ancestors before passing out lucky red envelopes to the people who were waiting in line.
Ma took the opportunity to speak about Taiwan's economy. He said the government will do whatever it can to improve the country's economy.
