Traffic volume on Taiwan’s highways is expected to reach a record high Saturday as more people travel around the country during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The National Freeway Bureau said after family reunions on New Year’s Eve and the following two days, people tend to start going out on the third day of the Lunar New Year. The bureau also said this creates a high volume of traffic on the country’s major freeways.
On Friday a record 3.16 million vehicles hit the highways, and as more people take to the roads, that number is likely to increase on Saturday.
Last Lunar New year, the bureau recorded 3.12 million vehicles on the nation’s highways on the third day of the year, a record that it estimates will be broken this year.
