Premier Mao Chi-kuo is set to give a report on this year’s road map for policy planning at the legislature when its new session opens Tuesday.
According to the Cabinet, the report will focus on ways to boost the economy while also taking social justice and sustainable development into consideration.
To prop up the economy, the government is planning to push for Free Economic Pilot Zones (FEPZs), hold talks with trading partners on economic cooperation pacts and adjust the tax system.
Other priorities include the Taoyuan Aerotropolis project, the biomedical park in Hsinchu, the development of high-speed rail stations, the container terminal in Kaohsiung as well as the development of outlying islands and remote villages.
The report will also include a road map for long term care insurance, child care and elderly care services, the crackdown on tainted food products, land conservation and nuclear safety. On the diplomatic front, the government will push for viable diplomacy, strengthen humanitarian assistance to the international community, and normalize official exchanges across the Taiwan Strait.
