Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng has denied rumors he is considering becoming the KMT’s presidential candidate in 2016.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Wang said he is concerned about making sure the legislature runs smoothly. He said he has not given thought to the idea of running for president and dismissed talk of his candidacy as speculation.
The rumors come days after the opposition Democratic Progressive Party announced that it has selected party chairperson Tsai Ing-wen to run in the next presidential election. The KMT has not begun its nomination process yet.
On Tuesday, KMT party Chairman Eric Chu said the party has a great deal of talent. There are many potential candidates of various ages and levels of experience. Chu said the party will welcome any potential candidate that has an enthusiasm for serving the country.
