Taiwanese-American NBA player Jeremy Lin posted via his YouTube channel on Monday a video about caring for the homeless. It is another episode of his “A Day in the Life” series, sharing how he spent his personal time over the All-Star break.
The video shows Lin and his brother cooking Chinese dishes like pot stickers, dumplings, and turnip cakes over the Chinese New Year holidays. The two men then packed the foods into lunchboxes and handed out the meals to the homeless in their neighborhood. They also handed out red packets filled with money to the vagrants. Handing out red envelopes is a Chinese New Year tradition.
In the video, Lin sat down with the homeless to hear their personal stories. He said some were born with disabilities so they do not have a choice. Others, he said, have their difficulties and do not choose to be on the streets.
Lin’s video came at a time in stark contrast to a fatal shooting of an unarmed homeless man by six policemen in Los Angeles on Sunday.
