Taipei and Taichung have both placed in the top 100 in Mercer’s latest quality of living survey.
The annual survey aims at providing multinational companies with information on how to compensate their employees fairly when placing them on international assignments.
The survey ranked 230 cities worldwide on their livability. Taipei placed 83rd while Taichung was ranked in 99th place.
This is the first time that Taichung has placed in the top 100. The rich cultural traditions of the city in central Taiwan have helped attract key local and international industries.
Vienna topped the list, followed by Zurich, Switzerland and Auckland, New Zealand. Singapore was the highest ranked Asian city, placing 25th. Other Asian cities included in the top 100 were Tokyo, Hong Kong and Seoul.
