President Ma Ying-jeou says that his work towards stabilizing cross-strait relations has also contributed to better relations between Taiwan and the US.
Ma was speaking on Thursday during a meeting with US academic Eric Wakin. Ma said that his seven-year administration has seen a renewed trust between US and Taiwanese government officials. He cited the US government’s decision to add Taiwan to its Visa Waiver Program as one example of improved bilateral relations in recent years.
Ma said that US officials have been pleased with his administration’s efforts to maintain the status quo and create the conditions for peace in the region. He said that stable relations between Taiwan and Mainland China have allowed the US to maintain friendly ties with both sides.
