The government is planning to hold a military display to mark the 70th anniversary of the Republic of China's victory over Japan in World War II. That’s the word from the defense ministry on Friday.

The Republic of China government, which fought against Japan between 1937 and 1945, relocated to Taiwan in 1949 after losing to the Chinese communist forces in a civil war.

The military display will be staged in the northern county of Hsinchu in July. Details of the display have not yet been finalized. But the defense ministry said that President Ma Ying-jeou will be invited to inspect troops during the event.

It has been reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping will also review his country's troops at a military parade in Beijing on September 3 to mark the anniversary.

Taiwanese Premier Mao Chi-kuo has said that Taiwan will hold a series of events this year, including an international conference where historians will present their work on the war.
