The island group of Penghu off southwest Taiwan has been listed for the first time by Agoda.com as an emerging tourist destination in Asia in 2015. Agoda is a leading international accommodation booking site. Since 2011, Agoda has been compiling an annual list of emerging Asian travel hotspots that each offers fewer than 70 accommodation options.
The site said unique dialect and lifestyle are reasons why travelers must not miss Penghu. In Penghu, people can ride a bicycle, a motorcycle, or rent an environmentally friendly electric bike to tour the island. Tourists can also appreciate the rustic beauty of fishing villages along the way. Agoda also highlighted Penghu’s natural attractions like the basalt pillars and the twin-heart-shaped fish trap in Qimei Township. The archipelago also has an abundance of inexpensive seafood and local delicacies to satisfy even the pickiest eaters.
Other destinations listed this year are Chitwan National Park in Nepal, Pangandaran in Indonesia, and Yufu City in Japan.
Taiwan’s Hualien, Nantou, Kaohsiung and Kenting have all made it on to Agoda’s list in the past.
