Chairman of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) Eric Chu says his party will resume its annual meeting with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Chu made the comments on Tuesday. He said the KMT-CCP forum is a regular event, so it will definitely resume.
The two parties have met at least once a year since 2006. However, a meeting that should have taken place last year was postponed due to local elections in Taiwan last November.
KMT spokesman Yang Wei-chung said on Tuesday that a forum will be held this year, but the two sides still need to work out details. He also said it is possible that the party’s chairman may meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also head of the Chinese Communist Party.
