Ma says 1992 Consensus “a path” for cross-strait relations
A path we can take

President Ma Ying-jeou said that the 1992 Consensus is a path for cross-strait ties. He was speaking to a visiting delegation from the US think tank Project 2049 Institute.

The president explained that the 1992 Consensus means “One China, each side with its own interpretation” which gives room for the two sides to have their differences.

"The 1992 Consensus has been around for 23 years already. Before I came to office, it already had experienced many twists of fate and was not entirely enacted. After I came to office and put it into effect, we found that this is a path we can take," said Ma.

He also told the delegation that Taiwan is working to be a peacemaker in the Taiwan Strait, East China Sea, and South China Sea.

The president said that as it is US policy to rebalance towards Asia, Taiwan will fully support the US in promoting peace in the region.
