Argentina has agreed to send a military vessel to help search for a Taiwanese fishing ship that has been missing for two weeks.
The missing ship last made contact while it was located 1,500 nautical miles from Argentina. It was carrying a crew of 49, with 21 from Indonesia, 13 from the Philippines, 11 from China, two from Vietnam, and two, including the captain, from Taiwan.
Fisheries Agency Deputy Director-General Huang Hung-yan said Friday that Argentina has agreed to send a large vessel, which will reach the area where the ship was reported missing in three days. Other Taiwanese fishing vessels operating nearby are helping in the search as well.
The fisheries agency said that the missing ship did not send any signals of distress or notification of hijacking before disappearing, suggesting that the ship could still be in the region, probably without power.
