President Ma Ying-jeou is urging the public to conserve water amid Taiwan’s first drought in 68 years.
Ma made the comments on Saturday after visiting a farm in northern Taiwan known for its water conservation measures. He said according to the definition of the United Nations, Taiwan is one of the 18 countries in the world that face serious shortage of water. Ma also said extreme weather patterns bring excessive rainfalls during the raining season, but too little rainfall during the dry season.
Ma said the government has imposed water rationing measures and he also called on the public to conserve water.
