A recent patch of rainy weather has failed to bring Taiwan relief from one of the worst droughts in the last decade. The nation’s Water Resources Agency (WRA) on Friday called on the public to help conserve water in the run up to World Water Day on March 22.
So far, nine cities and counties throughout Taiwan have begun implementing phase two water cuts. The Water Resources Agency urged those areas to hold events to encourage citizens to conserve water. The events will invite water saving experts from industry and agriculture to share their experiences. Officials will also work with the education ministry to share water conservation experiences with students in the nation’s elementary and junior high schools.
Meanwhile, the nation’s drought preparedness center is set to meet for a second time on March 19 to assess the nation’s water resources. Officials will decide whether to implement further water cuts.
