President Ma Ying-jeou may go on one more diplomatic trip before his term ends in 2016. That’s the word from the foreign ministry on Monday.
Foreign Minister David Lin said that President Ma has visited all of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies since taking office in 2008. But he said that some of the allies are set to hold presidential elections at the end of this year, and the president may revisit those countries to attend the inauguration of the new presidents.
Ma has gone on ten diplomatic visits since he assumed office seven years ago. If the president goes on another diplomatic trip, he will be the first president in Taiwan to have 11 diplomatic trips under his belt.
Ma’s term as president ends on May 20, 2016.
