A Taiwanese fishing vessel that left the southern port of Kaohsiung in mid-January this year is still missing. That’s the word from the fisheries agency on Monday.
The missing ship last made contact when it was about 1,500 nautical miles off the coast of Argentina. Argentina has agreed to send a large vessel to help with the search. The Taiwanese fishing ship, which has been missing for two weeks, was carrying a crew of 49, with 21 from Indonesia, 13 from the Philippines, 11 from China, two from Vietnam, and two, including the captain, from Taiwan.
Taiwan’s fisheries agency said on Monday that Argentina has agreed to send a large vessel, which will reach the area where the ship was reported missing in three to four days. Other Taiwanese fishing vessels operating nearby are helping in the search as well.
The agency said that the missing ship did not send any distress signal or notification of hijacking, suggesting that the ship could still be in the region, possibly without power.
