The Central Weather Bureau says that the rainy weather sweeping through northern Taiwan is likely to bring much-needed drought relief.
Taiwan is facing its worst drought in 67 years with some factories and residential areas in northern Taiwan facing water rationing and cuts.
A meteorologist said on Monday that the rain is expected to continue through Friday in northern and eastern Taiwan as well as in the mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan.
If the precipitation falls over rain catchment areas, it could provide a respite for parched regions in Taiwan.
