A high-ranking US commerce official says trade ties between Taiwan and the United States are close. The official -- Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews – was speaking on Sunday in Washington at a SelectUSA forum.
SelectUSA was first launched in 2013 as part of US President Barack Obama’s plan to boost the economy, attract foreign investment and create job opportunities. Sunday’s forum focused specifically on trade ties with Taiwan.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) attended the event with a delegation of 90 leaders from 65 Taiwanese businesses.
Andrews said the forum was a sign of solid trade relations and the long-standing friendship between Taipei and Washington. He called for growing business partnerships in the future.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s representative to the United States, Shen Lyu-shun, was also at the event. He called on American companies to “select Taiwan”, when looking for places to invest, since Taiwan is a major trading partner.
