Beijing is declining to give a straight comment about Taiwan’s possible participation in the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
The AIIB is a Chinese-proposed multilateral fund with about US$50 billion in capital. As of March 22, 36 members have signed up, including France, the UK, and Italy. Taiwan is also considering joining the AIIB.
In a routine press conference on Wednesday, spokesperson of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, Fan Liqing, did not comment on Taiwan’s possible participation in the AIIB. She only said that preparation work for the AIIB is still ongoing.
