The Central Bank of Taiwan has announced that it has decided to leave its key interest rates unchanged. That was the conclusion made at the bank’s quarterly policymaking meeting on Thursday.

The bank took into consideration the uncertain global economic outlook.

The central bank has maintained the discount rate at 1.875 percent, the rate of accommodations with collateral at 2.25 percent, and the rate of accommodations without collateral at 4.125 percent.

It is the 15th consecutive quarter that the central bank has retained the same interest rates.

Meanwhile, Governor of Taiwan’s Central Bank Perng Fai-nan says that 26 countries have already lowered their interest rates to cope with the falling oil prices. Perng said that although South Korea, Taiwan’s main competitor, has already introduced interest rate cuts, Taiwan’s interest rates are still lower. He said that the government will adjust its interest rates based on domestic factors, though the global economic situation will also be taken into consideration.
