Taiwanese finance officials have said that joining the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) would be conducive to Taiwan’s economy.
Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) Chairman William Tseng and Finance Minister Chang Sheng-ford both expressed support for Taiwan’s participation at the legislature on Thursday.
FSC Chairman William Tseng said AIIB membership would bring business opportunities to Taiwan’s banking industry. However, he said that the foreign ministry and Mainland Affairs Council will make the final decision.
The Beijing-based AIIB is aimed at providing finance to infrastructure projects in Asia. Thirty five countries have already expressed their interest in joining.
