Taiwan’s top China policymaking body – the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) – says there have been no abnormalities along a new Chinese commercial flight route which is close to Taiwan’s airspace. China launched the new route, known as M503, on Sunday.
Taiwan had initially opposed the Chinese plans for new commercial airline routes, which included the M503 route and three east-west routes, saying they were too close to Taiwan and could pose safety risks for Taiwanese commercial flights.
However, after consultations with Taiwan, China agreed to cancel its plans for the east-west routes and to move the M503 route westwards and closer to China.
MAC officials say they will continue to monitor the new route and take appropriate measures to protect Taiwan's national security.
