Weekly flights between Taiwan and Japan could surpass 500 this year. That’s the word from the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA). In 2014, there were 456 weekly flights between Taiwan and Japan.

The number of visits between people in Taiwan and Japan reached new highs last year. Taiwanese made close to 3 million visits to Japan, whereas Japanese made 1.63 million visits to Taiwan in 2014. Taiwanese have especially been keen on traveling to Japan because of the depreciating Japanese yen.

National and foreign airline companies have been increasing their Taiwan-Japan flights in the last four years. Besides Taiwan-based China Airlines and EVA Airways, several other Taiwanese airlines have raised the number of weekly flights to Japan. Tigerair Taiwan began its Japan route on April 2, while V-Air and Far Eastern Air plan to begin flights to Japan this year.
